Green energy courses available from 7Y Services

In a further development of its professional services to rural business, 7Y Energy, a division of 7Y Services Ltd, is launching a range of green energy courses to help farmers and landowners explore their long term energy options.

Having provided the usual training for the farming industry for a number of years in technical skills such as telescopic handlers, ATVs, Chainsaw and pesticide application, 7Y has now developed courses in renewable energy and resource management to reflect the changes in grant funding seen throughout the UK in recent years.

The first of these new courses are entitled, Resource Efficiency for Land Based Business and Farm Energy Strategies. The first one will be tailored for the different sectors of agriculture and will lead candidates through a variety of behaviour and technology changes to increase efficiency on farms including energy saving, nutrient and water use and fuel efficiency. Candidates will be shown how to calculate their current resource usage and put together an action plan for savings to be made in the future. The course will also touch on energy generation technologies which would integrate well with resource saving plans.

The second course will introduce candidates to a wide range of renewable technologies and help them identify which may be suitable for their own farms through the use of case studies. Investment appraisal techniques will be used to allow candidates to compare the return on investment and capital requirement of each generation method. Evaluating project risk and an overview of funding available through a variety of schemes, energy policies and sales of green energy will also be covered during the day.

Julian Morgan, Chairman of 7Y services comments: "With energy security under threat and the wide fluctuating price of oil and other fuels, generating your own energy in today's climate is increasingly an attractive proposition. The latest announcements on renewable tariffs for electricity and heat make these schemes even more financially attractive" Having installed both biomass and solar technologies already on his own farm in Herefordshire, and planning to erect a wind turbine, Julian practises what he preaches. The RE:think Energy scheme has provided grants for wind power and photovoltaic panels to supply power to his commercial units. 7Y Energy assisted Julian to obtain this funding and is well placed to guide other farmers in these projects.
